Two landscapes by Daniel Charles Grose (1838-1900). 1st item: Oil on canvas of a river scene with a picket fence and large trees with a white house and mountains in the background. Signed lower right "D C grose 187". Sight: 8 7/8" H x 11 7/8" L, Framed: 12 3/4" H x 17" L. 2nd item: Oil on canvas of a river scene with bank and trees with mountains in the background. Signed lower left "DC Grose 18". Sight: 8" H x 12" H, Framed: 13" H x 16 3/4" L. Biography: W. Daniel Charles Grose was born in England and lived most of his life in Canada. In the 1870's he moved to Washington DC, where he lived until his death in 1900. While mainly noted for his Landscapes of North America, he also painted international scenes during a five-year world tour he made with his wife in the 1880s. Condition: 1st item: Canvas has multiple streaks across top of surface. Date partially illegible. 2nd item: Canvas has spots of paint loss damage, especially top (1/2" mark) and bottom (1/2" mark) of middle and lower right (1/2" mark) of surface. Date partially illegible.
