Baldwin, London. 18mo, 690 total gilt edged pages with four (4) watercolor split double fore-edge paintings, two (2) to each book, Vol. I: Portrait of Defoe, obverse, Crusoe finds goats on the island, reverse, Vol. II – Crusoe reading to Friday from the Bible, obverse, Crusoe sights an English Ship, within a border of Chilean Mallow flowers, rebound in tooled red straight grain Moroccan leather with gilt decorations to covers and gilt lettering to spine, four raised hubs. 6 1/2" H x 4 1/4" W x 1 1/8" D. Early 19th century. Note: Both books were included on a receipt from J.N. Bartfield, New York, NY, dated August 24, 1983, available to the winning bidder. CONDITION: Fore-edge paintings in overall excellent condition. Pages in overall good condition with toning, areas of dampstaining. Rebound boards in overall good condition, corners bumped. Acid burn from old book plate, inside front covers, typed paper with information about books glued to front end paper along binding.
