Group of 9 land documents concerning property in Middle Tennessee, 1790-1840. All are handwritten,"true" copies, and the names of governors appear to be signed by secretaries – including North Carolina Governors Sam Ashe, Samuel Johnston, Richard Dobbs Spaight, and Richard Caswell, and Tennessee governors Sam Houston, James K. Polk, and William Carroll. Some have additional names of witnesses or assignees. Names include James Robertson and John Tate (assignees of Peter Beeche?); Talliferro Howell; Joseph Howard; John Gray Blount and Thomas Blount; Abraham Goldsticker, Martha McRay, William and Eliza Newsom, Joseph Shaw, and Robert McConnell. All approximately 12" x 8" except for the Polk document, 16 1/2" x 13 1/2". Nine total items. Provenance: the estate of Sarah Hunter Hicks Green, formerly of Historic Devon Farm, Nashville, Tennessee. CONDITION: Expected toning and scattered small stains; Blount-Spaight document has some tears at fold lines.
