Black lacquer screen, the front main field decorated with figures made of multicolored hardstone and bone. The figures, many with painted robes, are depicted in landscape settings, engaged in activities including making and serving tea. Carved hardstone decorations of precious objects are applied to the lower third of screen and the border features mother of pearl floral inlay. Signed. Polychrome and gilt decorated back. 71"H x 64"W. Chinese, 20th century. Provenance: Estate of Mary Johnson, Nashville, TN. Condition: Scattered cracks to stone including on ram, 1 man's robe, 1 lady's robe, and fungus/rock.
