Grouping of 8 African-American "Negro" Women Dolls and figures, comprised of different materials. Includes 1 wax figure on stand with basket attributed to Vargas family of New Orleans, 1 composition doll, 1 porcelain doll, 2 wooden dolls (one having unusual minimalist facial features), 1 wire figure and 3 rag dolls, ranging in size from 7-1/2" H to 16" H. Also included is a pastel painting on board of "Mammy" peeling apples with cat and child, signed A.B. Unframed. 14" H x 11" W. Early 20th century. Provenance: Knoxville, TN collector. Condition: Various wear throughout dolls with some losses. Vargas doll has losses to feet and legs and to basket. Pastel is peeling from board, with foxing and toning.
