East Tennessee walnut blanket chest, attributed to the cabinet maker Jacob Fisher who lived and worked in McMinn County (working 1837 – 1843). Illustrated in the book Art & Furniture of East Tennessee, Namuni Young, Fig. 6, page 6. Rectangular form with inlaid light wood escutcheon and applied molding to the top and base with double incised lines. An unusual feature of this chest are the continuous stiles, forming the splayed French feet. Appears to retain the original iron hinges. Poplar secondary. 21" H x 37-5/8" H x 14-5/8" D. Provenance – Estate of Bill Selden, Athens, TN. Condition: Older refinish, minor stains and abrasions to top.
