Jules Rene Herve (French, 1887-1981), large oil on canvas impressionist landscape depicting Le Jardin du Luxembourg. Children are clustered in the left foreground, renting pond boats. Signed lower right and en verso. Molded giltwood frame. Sight – 25" H x 31" W. Framed – 33 1/4" H x 40 1/8" W. Biography (courtesy Askart: The Artists' Bluebook): Jules Herve was born in Langres and attended L'Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris. He was awarded the Medaille d'Argent at the Salon des Artistes Francais in 1914 and exhibited there and at the various Paris salons throughout his life. Herve is best known for his idyllic, impressionist views of daily life in Paris. Provenance: the estate of Virginia J. Cook, Nashville, Tennessee. Condition: Very good condition.
