The items in this lot and another country music lot in this sale came from the estate of the late Mel Foree (Born July 25, 1911. Died October 28, 1990). These items have remained in the possession of family members since Mr. Foree's passing. Mr. Foree was hired by Nashville's famous Acuff-Rose company to write country and western songs and worked for them from the 1940s through the 1980s. He is a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame and they dubbed him "Nashville's first songplugger." He co-wrote some of the most famous country songs of all time including six that are on the 1998 box-set release The Complete Hank Williams. Mr. Foree also co-wrote "Nobody's Child" with Cy Coben, which was first recorded by Hank Snow and later by Lonnie Donegan in 1956, which went to #2 in the UK. IT was recorded again by Tony Sheridan and the Beat Boys (The Beatles) in 1961 and by Karen Young in 1969 where it went to #6 in the UK. Hank Williams Jr. also covered it reaching #46 on the US Country charts. The Traveling Wilburys' recorded a version in 1990 that made it to #44 on the UK charts. Another Mel Foree song widely published by accomplished artists is "No One Will Ever Know" (by Mel Foree and Fred Rose) appearing on Roy Orbison's album "In Dreams" released in 1963. Note: This lot does not include publishing rights. We do not know if it is possible for the buyer to produce and publish these songs.
