English George III Sterling Silver lidded tankard with armorial crest. Domed lid with gadrooned edges and pierced shell form thumbrest, slightly bulbous body engraved with an armorial crest and the motto "In Prosperis Time In Adversis Spera" , c-scroll handle with overlaid drape effect, on a round foot with gadrooned edge. Underside of lid and tankard with marks for London, 1774, FC (likely Fras Crump), later engraving on underside: 1774 "For my friend from her friend Xmas 1931". 8-3/4"H. 35.13 oz troy. Provenance: the estate of U.S. General Hanford MacNider, Mason City, Iowa. Condition: Repair to handle, some scratching and a couple spots of light pitting and minute dents.
