Austrian oil on canvas, possibly Johann Nepomuk della Croce (Austrian, 1736-1819) depicting a Madonna type figure with a downward gaze. German inscription en verso. Sight: 12" H x 9 5/8" W. Frame: 18 1/4" H x 16" W. Late 18th/Early 19th century. Biography: Johann Nepomuk della Croce, was an Austrian painter born at Pressano, in the Tyrol. He studied under Lorenzoni, and after travelling in Italy, Germany, Hungary, and France, he settled at Burghausen. He is known for his portrait paintings and historical pictures. There are many altar-pieces painted by him in the churches of Bavaria. Condition: Canvas laid on board. Old relining with some touchups and restorations to facial area. Later gilt carved frame.
