Clinton Brown (American/New York, d. 1954) oil on canvas still life depicitng a fall-hued floral still life arranged in a white urn form vase with partially draped backdrop. Signed lower left "Clinton Brown" and housed in a gilt painted wood frame. Sight: 23 1/2 " H x 24 1/2 " W. Framed: 27 1/2" H x 28 3/4 " W. Artist Biography: (Adapted from AskArt) Originally from New York, Brown was known primarily as a portrait painter. He regularly visited the Bahama Islands, where he painted many small landscapes, seascapes, private houses and gardens. In the late 1940s he moved to San Francisco where he turned much of his attention to floral still life painting and began to sign his paintings as Michael Clinton.
PROVENANCE: A Knoxville, Tennessee collection.
CONDITION: Minor rubbing noted to strechers. Rubbing, abrasions and pin prick losses of paint to lower left corner. A couple of faint horizontal scratches, one right leaf of still life with drop stain of an unknown substance, and vertical drip to rignt of urn of an unknown substance. Frame with touch ups.
