Marilyn Murphy (Tennessee, late 20th/early 21st centuries) graphite on paper drawing titled “The Generator,” depicting a man using a gadget to electrify the pole of a miniature tent, which bursts into flames. Unsigned. Float-mounted atop a white mat, under plexiglass, in a plain natural wood frame. Sheet: 18 3/4 in. H x 24 3/4 in. W. Frame: 27 1/4 in. H x 33 1/4 in. W. Exhibited, “Marilyn Murphy: Suspended Animation,” Frist Center for the Visual Arts, Nashville, 2004. Illustrated in the catalog for the exhibition, by Mark Scala and Lucy R. Lippard, p. 36. A copy of the hardcover catalog, autographed by the artist, accompanies this lot.
PROVENANCE: The Estate of Stacy Widelitz. Mr. Widelitz was an award winning composer and songwriter, and a noted photographer. He led numerous arts boards in Nashville after relocating from Los Angeles in 2000, and served as an Oak Hill (TN) City Commissioner 2016-2020.
CONDITION: Drawing and frame: excellent condition. Some slight wear to dustcover of book.
