American School, early to mid 20th century, oil on canvas bird's eye view of a coastal town, possibly Gloucester, Massachusetts, overlooking a harbor with sailboats, and roofs and treetops in the foreground, all under a clear blue sky. Unsigned. Gold-painted Louis XV style frame with swept edge. Canvas – 20" x 16". Frame – 27" x 23" x 2 3/4".
PROVENANCE: The Estate of Carl Klein, Brentwood, Tennessee.
CONDITION: Painting in overall very good condition. Lined. Cracquelure, particularly to sky area, Couple of small spots of touchup to sky area, visible under UV light. Frame has several areas of chipping to gold paint on all sides, up to 1 1/2".
