Two (2) American School paintings of haystacks. 1st item: Oil on board painting depicting haystacks in a landscape setting under an overcast sky. Signed illegibly with initials lower right, possibly DOL or TIOL? Erroneous attribution in pen en verso to artist Willie Betty Newman (1863-1935) and date "Feb. 12, 1952", with numbers and pencil inscription "Mrs. Douglas". Narrow giltwood frame with molded sight edge. Board – 9"H x 12"W. Frame – 10 1/2" x 13 1/2". 2nd item: Mary Loring Warner (American/CT, 1860-1950) watercolor on paper autumn landscape painting depicting haystacks and pumpkins. Narrow molded frame. Sight – 7"H x 9 1/2"W. Frame – 8"H x 11"W.
PROVENANCE: Private Middle Tennessee collection.
CONDITION: 1st item: Some scattered small stains and wear to sky area, particularly at center; scattered scratches to haystack area up to 1/2", pin holes at each of the 4 corners. 2nd item: Light toning, overall very good condition. Neither painting examined out of frame.
