New Haven: Durrie & Peck and Herrick & Noyes, 1837. 5 3/4" H X 9 1/4" W (Octavo). 452 Pages + the Appendix and all four plates. 100% Complete. The First Edition of a scarce and significant book in the field of mineralogy. Volume in period leather. Signed in three different places by John Davis (1770-1853), Revolutionary War veteran and an original settler of Nashville. Four raised hubs to spine with original black leather spine label. Marbled page edges. Provenance: the estate of Sarah Hunter Hicks Green, formerly of Historic Devon Farm, Nashville, Tennessee. CONDITION: Overall good condition. A bit of scuffing and bowing to the boards apparently caused by a bit of damp-staining. Scattered foxing and hints of previous mildew. Hints of cracking to the leather at the head and tail of spine. Binding is quite sound.
