Hjalmar "Cappy" Amundsen (Maine/New York/Massachusetts, 1880-2001) oil on canvas impressionist painting titled "The Village" depicting a small town in autumn with five figures strolling along a dirt road before two groupings of houses. Signed "F. H. McKay" lower left. F. H. McKay is pseudoname for C. Hjalmar "Cappy" Amundsen. Artist's name and titled inscribed on top stretcher with documents including artist information in plastic sleeve, attached en verso. Housed in a carved gilt wood frame. Sight – 19 3/4" H x 25 3/4" W. Framed – 24 3/4" H x 30 3/4" W. Provenance: Property of a private Alabama collection. CONDITION: Overall good condition. Craquelure, surface of painting. Stretcher mark across top quadrants of painting. Minute pinprick center right near house windows. No alterations or inpainting evident with black light.
