Graphically strong pieced Southern quilt made of cotton cloth in Oxblood brown, dark blue, and orange solid colors in the “Seven Stars” pattern (in reference to the star cluster “The Seven Pleiades” in the constellation Taurus). Quilting is by the piece. Quilting knots are visible on back. Initials “B. S.” embroidered in a corner on back. 72″ H x 89″ W. Circa 1890. Note: Oxblood brown, dark blue, and orange colors are typically found in Carolina and Georgia quilts of the late 1800s. Dark quilting thread used over dark pieced area is a regional characteristic. Another similar example of this sewing is seen in the “Slashed Star” pattern quilt, also included in this sale.
CONDITION: Very good condition overall. Appears unwashed; colors not faded; seams are secure.Tiny bite out of the binding. Backing has scattered discoloration, including along fold lines, and scattered minor spotting.
