Two (2) American etchings by Churchill Ettinger and Huc-Mazelet Luquiens. 1st item: Huc-Mazelet Luquiens (American, 1881-1961) drypoint etching titled "Coral Sea" depicting a scene on a Hawaiian beach with two nude women beneath a group of palms, with strong drypoint burr visible throughout. Signed at dated "H. M. Luquiens, 1929" in plate, lower left. Signed and titled in pencil. Plate: 7 3/4" H x 9 3/4" W. Frame: 16 3/8" H x 18 3/4" W. Note: Born in Massachusetts, Luquiens moved to Hawaii in 1915 and secured a position teaching art at the University of Hawaii. He went on to lead the art department at the university and to found the Honolulu Printmakers printmakers association, which is still active today. Luquiens is best known for his prints of Hawaii, and especially its people and natural splendors. 2nd item: Churchill Ettinger (Vermont/New Jersey, 1903-1984) etching and drypoint titled "Startled Teal" depicting a bird tumultuously rising to flight from its perch upon the water below with marsh foliage and a distant shoreline in the background. Pencil signed "Churchill Ettinger" lower right and titled lower left. Printed informational label and Associated American Artists label affixed, en verso. Housed and matted under glass in a wooden frame. Plate: 10 7/8" H x 8 3/8" W. Sight: 11 5/8" H x 8 7/8" W. Framed: 18 5/8" H x 14 3/4" W.
CONDITION: 1st item: Print has some mat burn around perimeter and image is toned. Mat has staining and discoloration in lower center. Not examined outside of frame. 2nd item: Slight toning/discoloration to paper.
