Red painted hanging box or lynching stand, divided top collapses by means of a cast iron lever. Square decoratively embossed cast iron handles, plain bracket feet. By oral history, used in the Russellville, Kentucky area by a justice of the peace/judge who traveled the area performing executions; sixteen men are said to have died on it. 11-1/2" H x 23"W x 25" D. Circa 1880. Provenance: Hendersonville, TN collection. Condition: Some wear to paint, especially on back side, couple of missing screws.
