Margaret Wehrley (Wisconsin, fl. early 20th c.) oil on canvas WPA-era painting entitled "Rainy Day (Wisconsin)," depicting storm clouds over a road leading toward a farmstead with barn and house tucked behind a series of hills. Several puddles visible in the foreground suggest that the dark clouds seen overhead have already passed. At the foot of the barn a farmer tends to a stack of hay bales. Signed "WEHRLEY," lower left. Inscribed en verso "A.107 – Rainy Day (Wisconsin)." Housed in an ornately carved dark wood frame with gilt fillet. Canvas: 22" H x 28" W. Frame: 30 3/4" H x 36 1/2" W.
PROVENANCE: The Estate of Carl Klein, Brentwood, Tennessee.
CONDITION: Painting in excellent condition. Frame with abrasions to wood and pock marks to fillet.
