1st item: Naive Madonna and Child painting or icon on reverse glass panel, depicting Mary and a young Jesus pointing to a book (presumably the Bible). Possibly original carved giltwood frame with incised decoration. 16" x 13" image, 17-1/2" x 20-3/4" framed. Possibly Middle European, 18th or 19th century. 2nd item: 19th century Latin American painted tin retablo, depicting a man on his knees, hat in hand, before a saint appearing in a cloud above the ground. Inscription below in Spanish with English translation on label en verso: " Having suffered of the Tonsils, Desiderio Balderas invoked Our Lady of Guadalupe of Tierranegra and achieved his health, year of 1887." Later stained wood frame. Tin panel 5" x 7", framed 5-3/4" x 7-3/4". Condition: 1 pine strip detached on back of eglomise picture, wear and small losses to frame, image in good condition. Retablo has scattered paint wear including a 1/2" diameter section at right edge, scattered light grime and rust spots, hole in upper center for hanging.
