Collection of 26 Asian Ojime beads, strung on a tassel, most ivory, bone, or celluloid, many signed. Includes: 1 Shibayama floral design, signed; 1 ivory with intertwined rats; 1 double sided bead with carved pleasant and devil faces; 1 colored rat; 1 with carved turtles; 1 with carved tiger; 1 cinnabar with butterfly design; 1 darker colored bead (possibly horn) with floral design; 1 with three monkeys; 1 skeleton skull; 1 with flying cranes, 1 with rats dressed in humanclothing; and the others in various Oriental human or animal designs. Shibayama bead measures 3/4' diameter, most others approximately 5/8" diameter. Excellent condition. Provenance: Collected by George and Charles Mitchell (co-owners ofMitchell's Candy Store, Nashville) during the course of several trips to China and Japan in the late 19th-early 20th century.
