European School oil on board landscape painting of a hunting party at rest depicting several figures, including two female figures seated on the ground accompanied by a male figure playing a string instrument, a mounted male figure with a bird perched upon his forearm, and a reclining male figure with three captive birds, with two young male attendants, before a classical stone pillar and a planter with fern and dense foliage. Unsigned. Housed in a molded giltwood frame with foliate scroll decorations. Sight: 19 1/4" H x 14 7/8" W. Framed: 27 1/2" H x 23 1/8" W. 19th century.
PROVENANCE: Private Chattanooga, TN collection.
CONDITION: Scattered exfoliation to some figures in the foreground, especially to young males attending to horses, minor losses to woman in blue dress, some abrasions or possible overcleaning to lower sky area. Minute holes to board at lower right border, largest measuring 3/8" H x 1/8" W.
