A grouping of tintypes, ambrotypes and Thurston lantern slides of the Rev. George Wallace Penniman ( Massachusetts, 1857 – 1943,) and his family. Included in this lot are eight (8) tintypes and ambrotypes including one of Reverand Penniman as a child. Also included are nine (9) lantern slides including one of Reverend Penniman dated 1908 with the title "Grand Chancellor" refering to his involvement with the Knights of Pythias fraternal society. Also included is a small leather album of thumbnail sized tintypes of adults and children. All photos late 19th/ Early 20th century. History: George Wallace Penniman was son of Amos & Elizabeth Wentworth Penniman of Stoughton, Massachusetts. The Penniman family dated back in Massachusetts history as early as 1631. He first graduated from Tufts College and had a teaching career and later returned to Tufts to obtain a divinity degree. He was ordained a Universalist minister in 1889. He was married to Alice E. Hale and together they had four children. Condition: Overall very good condtion with some wear to cases. Lantern slides housed in their original box.
