1st item: Memphis, Tennessee coin silver julep cup of petite proportions, possibly a child's cup, with floral banding at upper and lower rims, slightly tapering sides, no monograms. Incuse stamp "MERRIMAN" (James E. Merriman, working Memphis, 1845-1860 and later). Note: the mark and floral banding are similar to those appearing on a child's cup in Caldwell: TENNESSEE SILVERSMITHS, p. 126 fig. 99f-g, attributed to c. 1850-55?. Cup 2 5/8"H. 2nd item: Coin silver salt cellar with flaring, wide ribbed rim over a repousse body, supported on three shell feet. Engraved to underside: ELIZABETH D. MOON TO VIRGINIA R MOON TO GENEVIEVE A. WARREN and stamped COIN with rubbed, illegible pseudohallmark. 1 1/2"h x 3 3/4" diam. Believed to have descended in the Moon family of Memphis.
PROVENANCE: Private Southern collection.
CONDITION: Cup: Overall good condition with scattered small dents and scratches. Salt: some pitting to interior, otherwise very good condition.
