Continental, possibly Spanish Colonial or Cuzco school, oil on panel painting depicting the Madonna and Child with the Madonna holding a book and the Christ child holding a piece of fruit, possibly an apple or pear. Stamp affixed in lower left corner. Housed in a simple giltwood frame. Sight: 18 1/4" H x 16" W. Framed: 22 1/2" H x 20 " W. 18th century. Acquired March, 1958 from Beaver Hat Antiques, MIddleburg, Virginia.
PROVENANCE: Property of a Tennessee Religious Institution.
CONDITION: Scattered flaking and natural age crack to center of panel cohesive with age. Scattered areas of flaking with light inpainting, and overpainting to age crack in center. A thick, restorative varnish has been applied to the surface of the work. Frame with wear and gilt re-painting.
