Large Carl Christian Edvard Otto Carlsen (Denmark, 1855-1917) oil on canvas impressionistic style spring or summer landscape painting depicting a shepherd herding sheep along a dirt road in a forest setting, with additional cattle further up the path, with dappled sunlight interspersed along the trail. Signed and dated "Carl Carlson 1881" lower left. Housed in a giltwood frame. Sight: 45 1/2" H x 54 1/2" W. Framed: 53 3/4" H x 63" W.
PROVENANCE: Provenance: the estate of Dr. Thomas Bechtel, Memphis, TN.
CONDITION: Painting overall good condition with craquelure, three areas of paint flakes/loss, largest 1/4", lower right. Frame with areas of loss, largest 3 3/4", to gilt.
