Charles Albert Despiau (France, 1874-1946) sanguine on paper figure study of male nude laying on his stomach, his chest propped up by his arms, and facing away from the viewer. Signed lower right. Writing en verso reads "Charles Despiau, Male Nude From Rear. Ex. Coll. Henry McBride, bought from Victor Sparle, N.Y.C., Coll. T. B. Brumbaugh. See George Waldemar, Despiau Vivant". Float mounted in a giltwood frame. Sight: 15" H x 11" W. Framed: 20 3/4" H x 16 3/4" W. 1st half 20th century. Provenance: The Estates of Olen Bryant and late Vanderbilt University art professor Thomas Brumbaugh, Clarksville/Cottontown, Tennessee. CONDITION: Damage from tape to top corners, but no loss to paper.
