Barnett Pattern 1856 Enfield Carbine or commonly called Enfield Saddle Ring Carbine, .577 caliber, used by the cavalry of both the Union and Confederate armies, with a horse carved on one side of the stock and name with other initials onthe other, possibly the work of a Native American. Lockplate is marked "Barnett London" with illegible barrel proofs. Stamped initials near butt of stock, "J.S." Carbine has an oral history of being recovered in the early 20th century atthe Battle of Peachtree Creek on family property in Atlanta, GA. Total length – 36 1/2" L. Barrel length – 22 1/2" L.
