American School, mid 19th century, oil on canvas portrait of an older lady wearing spectacles, bonnet and black dress, a Bible in her hands open to Proverbs chapter 6. Unsigned. Possibly original frame with floral molding. Sight – 32" H x 25" W. Framed – 37" H x 30" W. Condition: Relined; 4" patch with corresponding inpainting visible under black light to subject's right shoulder area, additional 1" surface scratch to shoulder area, 4" area of inpaint in upper left background, 2" area of scattered blanching/white residue spots to area around subject's hand. Stretcher is loose in frame at top.
