Bavarian School, mid 19th century, Portrait of a Woman Wearing a Fur Wrap. The dark haired subject is depicted seated in a gold-upholstered chair wearing a dress with cameo of a male figure and clutching a fur wrap around her shoulders. Signed at left and dated "Wurzburg 1840." Old, possibly original burnished frame with incised lily decoration. Sight 31 1/8" H x 24 3/4" W. Framed 36 3/4" H x 30 1/4" W. Provenance: Estate of Mrs. Mary Ann Bowers Thomas, Athens, Alabama. Condition: Original canvas with five small patches visible en verso to bottom and right sides around perimeter of painting, all under 1 1/2", with corresponding areas of inpaint visible under blacklight; general craquelure.
