K&E 4090 Universal 10″ Slide Rule. A scarce, early “dual slide” design with three rails and two conjoined slides. The additional rails made more calculations possible, but was prohibitively expensive to purchase and was discontinued soon after. Mahogany wood covered in celluloid, with a glass indicator. Marked <4090> on one slide, along with “Keuffel & Esser Co. N.Y.” and “Pat. Mar.21, ’99 Pat. June 5, ’00 Dec. 22, ’08”. Front side scales: A [B, C] D, CF [CF, S] A. Back side: A [BI, CI] D, CF [CI, L, T] D. Ca. early 1908-1912. Overall 12 5/8 in. L x 2 1/8 in. W.
PROVENANCE: Private West Tennessee collection.
CONDITION: Very Good condition with previous owner’s initials in four places, slight yellowing with age; slides move stiffly.
