Rare Davy Crockett stone lithograph with facsimile signature. Lithography by Childs & Lehman of Philadelphia, from the painting by S. S. (Samuel Stillman) Osgood. Below the bust portrait is a lithographed facsimile statement and signature, "I am happy to acknowledge this to be the only correct likeness that has been taken of me. David Crockett." "Entered according to act of Congress in the year 1831 by S.S. Osgood in the Clerks Office of the District Court of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania." Portrait: 9 7/8" H x 7 1/8" W, overall sheet size of engraving: 10 1/2" H x 8 1/8" W, mounting sheet with signature: 12 5/8" H x 8 1/2" W, Framed: 23 7/8" H x 17 7/8" W. Provenance: Estate of A. Welling LaGrone Jr., Nashville, Tenn., purchased from The Philadelphia Print Shop. Condition: Professionally conserved. Mild foxing and staining, a few tears expertly mended (no losses). Overall very good condition.
