Camille Pissarro (French, 1831-1903), "Portrait de la mere de l'artiste", (Portrait of the Artists's Mother), 1884, drawing in pencil on buff wove paper. Bust length portrait of an elderly woman wearing a turban. Signed with the artist's monogram stamp (ref. Lugt, 613e) in black ink, lower right. Dated in pencil upper right: 7 Janvier 1884. Andre Leroy, Nice, France stamp on back. Later giltwood frame with silk mat and gilt fillet. 6-1/4" x 4" sight, 14" x 11-1/2" framed. Provenance: the collection of Dr. and Mrs. Burton Silbert, Nashville, TN; Pasquale Iannetti Art Galleries, San Francisco. Exhibited: Camille Pissarro: Impressionist Innovator, The Jewish Museum, New York, 1995 (documentation including receipt from Pasquale Iannetti included). Condition: 1/8" light spot at center right, just above subject's shoulder; light creasing to top edge, 1/16" dark spot on subject's chest. Not examined out of frame.
