John James Audubon (1785-1851), Blue-Green Warbler, Male – SYLVIA RARA, Plate 49, No. 10, hand-colored aquatint engraving by R. Havell from the double-elephant-folio first edition of The Birds of America (London: 1827-1838). Plate dated 1828. Depicts a male blue-green warbler perched on a Spanish mulberry branch. Housed under glass in a painted metallic silver wooden frame. Plate – 19 1/2" H x 12 1/4" W. Sight – 37 1/2" H x 24" W. Framed – 40 3/4" H x 27 1/4" W. Second quarter 19th century. CONDITION: Overall acid/mat burn with waviness to paper. 1" x 1/2" area of repair, lower right. Foxing spots, largest 1/2". Loss to paint on frame, largest 13 3/4".
