Studio of Axel Theodor Lindahl (Sweden/Norway, 1841-1907) oil on paper mounted to canvas painting of a Swedish or Norwegian landscape, with two figures rowing a boat across a fjord between steep, rocky cliffs with a mountain visible in the distance. Signed "Axel Lindahls Atelier," lower right. Unframed. 11 5/8" H x 15 3/4" W. Biography: Axel Lindahl was born in Mariestad in southwestern Sweden. With his brother Udo, he opened his own photography studio in Uddevalla in 1865. He was an early photographer of landscapes in Sweden and Norway and left over 3500 negative plates, which are currently in the archives of Norsk Folkemuseum in Oslo. (Adapted from The British Museum)
CONDITION: With superficial grime and minor flaking. 6" x 4" area of cracking at center left stabilized by a varnish in previous restoration attempts. Yellowing of varnish evident in light areas of image.
