1st-3rd items: Pair of English Royal Navy epaulets, belt, and storage tin, made by Gieve, Matthews and Seagrove, belonging to Lieutenant E.S. Oatley. Epaulets with bullion loops and maker's stamp together with a full dress belt having bouillon lacing and matching sword slings bearing the same maker's stamp, all housed within the original black painted storage tin with the owner's name stenciled to the top "Lieut. E. S. Oatley, R. N." together with the maker's engraved shield "Gieve, Matthews & Seagrove Lt./Portsmouth/London/Devonport & Chatham". Box: 8" H x 18" W x 9" D. Early 20th century. 4th item: Large carved burl wood letter opener with carved wood figural dog head handle, the dog with inset glass eyes and black collar. 13 1/4" L. Late 19th/Early 20th century.
PROVENANCE: Private Chattanooga, TN collection.
CONDITION: 1st-3rd items: Epaulettes with in overall good condition with evidence of use wear including some minor losses and staining. Box with use wear including scratching, losses to paint and minor denting. 4th item: Overall general use wear, minor losses to opener tip, scattered wear and losses to dog head.
