Six (6) circa 1863 Currier & Ives small folio Civil War battle scene hand-colored lithographs. All are housed in modern burlwood frames with gray mats. 1st item: A riverside battle scene including a portrait of Ulysses S. Grant on horseback entitled "The Storming of Fort Donelson, Tenn. Feby. 15th 1862.," with caption containing historical information about the battle. Sight: 9 1/2" H x 13 1/2" W. Frame: 15 1/4" W x 19 1/4" H. 2nd item: A maritime battle scene entitled "Bombardment and Capture of Fort Henry, Tenn." with names of depicted Federal gunboats arranged as a key in lower margin. Sight: 9" H x 13 1/4" W. Frame: 15 1/4" H x 19 1/4" W. 3rd item: A battle scene with a cavalry charge entitled "The Battle of Pittsburg, Tenn. April 7th 1862.," with caption containing historical information about the battle, better known as the Battle of Shiloh, which took place at Pittsburg Landing in Tennessee. CONDITION: 1st item: Good condition with even toning to paper. Small areas of soiling in the upper-right sky and discoloration in adjacent cloud of smoke. A thin, 1/4 tear is in the upper-left quadrant. Tears are visible in margin at lower left and right. 2nd item: Good condition with vivid color. Light toning to paper, some light foxing throughout, and light soiling visible primarily in the left-hand margin. 3rd item: Condition is very good, with mild toning to paper. Not examined outside of frames. 4th item: Good condition with even toning to paper with scattered white specks of original paper tone. A cleanly-incised line is in the upper left of the frame. 5th item: Condition is fair with significant soiling throughout, especially visible in upper right quadrant. Approximately 3" creases run from the upper margins into the image at left and right, with some additional scuffing and ink loss in the sky and smoke clouds in upper register. Smaller creases appear in the lower right quadrant. Toning to paper throughout. 6th item: Condition is good with mild toning to paper throughout. Scattered foxing in the upper left margin and a spot of discoloration in margin beside lower left of image. A cleanly-incised line has been intentionally cut into the lower left of the frame. Not examined outside of frames.
