Set of five (5) coin silver spoons including 4 tablesoons and 1 teaspoon, all with fiddle swell handles and stamped S. SIMPSON in rectangle, likely the mark of Samuel Simpson, working Clarksville, TN, c. 1840-1858 and probably the same S. Simpson who appears in various Hopkinsville, KY references 1859-1860 (see Marquis Boultinghouse, Kentucky Silversmiths, p. 121 and Dr. Benjamin Caldwell, Tennessee Silversmiths, p. 154-155). Together with one (1) teaspoon with a fiddle swell handles and stamped P & R together with three hallmarks for Pratt & Reath, working in Philadelphia working 1854 to 1861. All pieces with monograms and ranging in size from 6 3/8" L to 8 1/4" L. 6.990 total troy ounces.
PROVENANCE: The Estate of Dr. & Mrs. John H Cheek, Nashville, TN.
CONDITION: All spoons are monogrammed. Three of the tablespoons and one of the teaspoon with separations or tearing to the lower bowl, all spoons with pitting.
