Nine (9) coin silver teaspoons of Tennessee interest, including 8 stamped W.H. CALHOUN NASHVILLE T in rectangles, monogrammed "Shaffner," and 1 with incuse stamp GR CALHOUN & Co. and mark for Wood and Hughes of New York, not monogrammed. All with fiddle tipt handles and rounded fins. The book TENNESSEE SILVERSMITHS by Dr. Benjamin H. Caldwell lists William Henry Calhoun working in Nashville 1839-1865 and George Reid Calhoun & Co. as a retailer working in Nashville 1843 – d. 1903. All approximately 6"L. Combined weight: 5.88 oz troy.
PROVENANCE: Estate of Judge John Nixon, Nashville, Tennessee.
CONDITION: G.R. Calhoun spoon has handle wear and persistent sticker residue, others in very good condition with minimal wear.
