English school oil on canvas portrait of Prince William Augustus, Duke of Cumberland (1721-1765). Subject is attired in a red military uniform and depicted standing and holding a staff in his right hand with a chair in the background. Unsigned. Housed in a simple giltwood frame. Label lower stretcher verso "48 Duke of Cumberland". Sight: 12 3/4" H x 11 1/2" W. Framed: 14 3/4" H x 13 1/2" W. English, 18th century.
CONDITION: Painting with overall light craquelure, areas of exfoliation and flaking above hat in upper right quadrant with largest flake measuring 1/8" H x 1/2" W, tight tear in canvas along hat (stable), loose in frame. Frame with abrasions and wear.
