Brass sewing caddy or lighting stand, topped by a figural bird or parrot with glass eyes. Bird's head lifts to reveal storage for a thimble. Bird is flanked by two candlestick holders and perches above six arms for holding thread. Turned shaft terminates in a round dish for holding miscellaneous sewing implements. Unmarked. 13"H. Probably Austrian, late 19th to early 20th century. Provenance: estate of Isabel Pesek, Ames, Iowa. Condition: Minor oxidation.
