Autograph album belonging to Miss Mallie E. Lindsay (1861-1946) of Cadiz, Kentucky, containing signatures, inscriptions, pen and ink illustrations, and pencil drawings, including one (1) signature of Jefferson Davis (1808-1889), president of the Confederate States from 1861 to 1865, Beauvoir, Mississippi, dated April 2, 1880; one (1) signature with inscription of Alexander Hamilton Stephens (1812-1883), vice president of the Confederate States from 1861 to 1865, the 50th governor of Georgia from 1882 until his death in March 1883, Atlanta, GA, dated February 20, 1883 (less than a month prior to his death); and one (1) signature of Joseph E. Brown (1821-1894) Governor of Georgia from 1857 to 1865, Atlanta, GA, undated. The majority of the signatures and inscriptions appear to be from friends, family members, and other acquaintances of Miss Lindsay from Kentucky, Tennessee, and Georgia, and date circa 1878-83. All gilt edge pages hardbound in an oblong brown leather album with painted floral spray to front cover, gilt stamping to front cover and spine. 4 1/4" H x 7 1/4" W x 3/4" D.
CONDITION: Overall good condition. Covers with wear, losses to leather, 2" tear to spine, white archival tape repairs to interior of covers. Majority of pages separated from spine, pages with minor tears, areas of dampstaining (slightly affects Confederate signatures).
