19th century Continental oil on canvas portrait depicting a mother with her three young children seated, one daughter holding a small image of a male soldier, possibly her father and the baby playfully holding the mother's locket or watch. Housed in a contemporary gilt wood frame. Unsigned. Sight – 34 5/8" H x 26 3/4" W. Framed – 41 5/8" H x 33 3/4" W. CONDITION: Overall very light craquelure to canvas. Some very slight rubbing to canvas at perimeter, most noticeably to the top stretcher and bottom right. Some varnish fluorescence noted to subject's foreheads under blacklight inspection.
