Alfred Chagniot (French, 1905-1991) oil on canvas, Impressionist landscape depicting road leading through a grove of trees to a European village. Signed lower left. 18" x 22" sight, 24" x 28" framed. Biography (courtesy Blouin Art Index): Alfred Chagniot was born in Paris and attended the Ecole des Beaux Arts. He was a follower of the Post-Impressionist school and a student of Montezin and Vuillaume. Chagniot was known for his European landscapes, often rendered with a light color palette and broken brush technique. Provenance: the estate of Helen B. Patterson, Gallatin, Tennessee. Condition: Relined; line of abrasion along right edge from reframing.
