18th century Philadelphia carved powder horn with elaborately carved decoration, including a scenic view of Philadelphia and its harbor with the title "A View of Philadelphia", a bird amongst flowers and other foliage, weapons of war, military flagand drum. Additionally inscribed with owner's information "SGT. JOHN HIESTER, HIS HORN OF PHIL ADA CNTY MILL?, CAP. J. YOUNGs Co. 1778". Condition – Nice old rich patina, some areas of insect damage and wear, stopper missing and slight losses to plug end. Approx 15-1/2" L. History: possibly John Hiester (1745ñ1821), an American military and political leader from the Revolutionary War era to the early 19th Century. He was a member of the Hiester Family politicaldynasty.
