The zinc sculpture of the woman, likely the Green deity of virtue known as Arete, holding a bird, is possibly after a design by George Fisher & Bro. (1867-1901). The base of the zinc figure reads: J. W. FISKE 26.28 PARK PLACE NEW YORK. Octagonal iron base with raised foliate designs and circular iron basins on opposite sides. 67"H x 23 1/2"W x 14"D overall, zinc figure 37"H. American, late 19th century. Note: a very similar Fiske fountain was installed in 1904 by the National Woman's Christian Temperance Union in Harrisonburg, Virginia; recently vandalized, it is now being restored. Provenance – Lexington, Kentucky area collection. Condition: Old exfoliation of paint, some light abrasions, newer fountain spouts have been added. .
