Southern watercolor on silk theorem depicting a garland of roses, lilies and other flowers, housed in the original giltwood frame and glass with reverse painted or eglomise border. Unsigned. Back of frame has worn period newspaper backing with the word "Washington" but no other information identifying location or date. Provenance: Descended in an early Charlottesville, Virginia family with ties to the Petersburg area. 12" x 15" sight, 19 1/2" x 23" framed. CONDITION: Silk is extremely fragile and discolored, with several tiny pinprick sized scattered holes. 1/4" dark mark and hole to upper left background. Glass has losses to eglomise and is loose in frame. Frame has several losses and abrasions.
