Invitation to the January 20, 1961 inauguration of President John F. Kennedy, and rare 1961 Nashville Tennessean Special Train to the Inauguration Button. Invitation is embossed and stamped with a gilt seal. Comes with the original envelope addressed to Mr. and Mrs. Russell Speights, postmarked 30 December 1960 from Washington, D.C. A calendar of inaugural activities is also included. Invitation 8.5'' x 11.25''. Calendar 7.25'' x 10.5''. Button, 2 1/4" diameter. Note: Russell Speights of Nashville was Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer of the Tennessean Newspaper from 1948-1964 and attended the trip to the inauguration for which this button was made.
PROVENANCE: Provenance: by descent from the estates of Russell and Cornelia Speights, Nashville, Tennessee.
CONDITION: All items with slight toning and envelope shows tears at one edge. Invitation with some creasing near fold line. Calendar has some pencil inscriptions, erased. Button shows some grime.
