Portable Medtronic 5800 model pacemaker with two (2) output terminals, output and rate control dials, a battery compartment, and two side handles. Stamped "Made in USA/19100" to underside. Also includes three (3) Medtronic pacemaker monitor Part No. 5801 batteries (one maintaining original box), one (1) Medtronic transistor or testing device 5823, eight (8) Medtronic unipolar post-operative electrodes (all maintaining original envelopes), one (1) Medtronic 5809 pacemaker harness, and one quality control card dating to September 28, 1965. All pieces are housed in a fitted Medtronic leather case with brass hardware inscribed "O.R./ V.A.H./ Lex./Ky" to interior top and inscribed "O.R./ U.S.V.A. Hospital" to top. Pacemaker: 1 1/2" H x 4" W x 5" D. Case: 2 3/4" H x 16" W x 7 1/4" D. American, circa late 1950s/early 1960's. Note: The Medtronic 5800 pacemaker was developed by Earl Bakken, an electrical engineer and co-founder of Medtronic Inc, in 1958.
